Pastor John W. Wilson III is a native of Los Angeles, California.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from San Diego State University in 1983.  After working for Transamerica Occidental Life Insurance Company, in August 1985 Pastor Wilson moved to Dallas, Texas. For the next several years, Pastor Wilson worked for such companies as Ameriprise Financial Services, Chase Bank, and Citibank.
In 1989 Pastor Wilson joined the Friendship-West Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III in Dallas, Texas.  Soon afterwards he began teaching in the New Members Education Ministry, Sunday School Ministry, DIOP (male mentoring ministry) and served as leader of the Singles’ Ministry for several years.  It was during this time in 1993 that Pastor Wilson received his call to the preaching ministry. Not wanting to make a hurried and emotional decision about his calling he enrolled in The Criswell College to help validate his calling. 

In May 1998 he graduated from The Criswell College, Dallas, Texas, where he received his Masters of Christian Leadership.  In November 1998, Pastor Wilson was hired by the Friendship-West Baptist Church to serve as the Pastor of Christian Education.  For the next 13 years Pastor Wilson oversaw several ministries such as, the Ushers, Ministry, Hospitality Ministry, Decision Counselor Ministry, Baptism Ministry, Frederick Douglas Academy, and the First Friends Ministry. He also developed and gave leadership to the Ministers in Training program, Teacher and Leadership Certification training, and the Howard Thurman Bible Institute. Pastor Wilson is passionate about teaching God’s Word, serving God’s people, and making disciples.
In May 2002 he graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas with a Masters of Divinity with biblical languages.  Pastor Wilson completed his earned Doctor of Ministry degree at George W. Truett Theological Seminary (on the campus of Baylor University) in Waco, in December 2010. Pastor Wilson was licensed in 1999 and ordained in 2000.
In December 2011, Pastor Wilson was called as senior pastor of First Christian Methodist Evangelistic Church in Dallas, Texas.  He began serving FCMEC on February 1, 2012.  Pastor Wilson is excited about this divine appointment, deeply loves the members of First Christian Methodist Evangelistic Church, and thanks God everyday for the opportunity to lead and serve God’s people.   
Pastor Wilson is happily married to Sherry Lynn Brown.  They are proud parents of five boys, John IV, Joshua Weldon, Jordan Webb, Jered Wendell, and Justus Woodson 
Pastor Wilson is a lectionary contributor to The African American Lectionary (a collaborative project of the African American pulpit and the American Baptist College of Nashville).
